Utilizing some pieces you have seen before on Fashion Snag in different ways, I came up with a preppy winter outdoor look on one of the coldest days so far in Denver. The first thing you should always do when preparing your oufit for the day is check the weather online or go outside. Since I take my dogs out each morning I get a pretty good idea of the weather, but I also like to see the high temperature for the day since Denver temps can get quite warm sometimes even in the winter. On this particular day it was probably 35 degrees when we shot these photos. Always base your outfits around the weather because fashion should be comfortable and functional. Knowing this I decided it was a leather leggings sort of day and I pulled out some colorful burgundy suede ones from Rag & Bone that you have seen before on Fashion Snag. When it is cloudy or dreary I like to wear a little more color to keep myself entertained.
On top you can do some nifty layering. Silk button down shirts are key pieces to have in your closet in all sorts of colors, but especially black and white. This one is by Equipment and is a beautiful violet shade. If you are on the fence about silk try rayon as a great and cheaper alternative. Ribbed sweaters in basic shades such as white and navy are also good to have in your closet. The one from T by Alexander Wang is great for layering. If you know you want to be able to layer a sweater you are interested in purchasing, always purchase one size up to account for the piece you will be wearing underneath. I layered the cream chunky pullover on top of the silk lavender blouse and left the collar and hemline exposed.
Chunky black ankle boots on the bottom are a must for Colorado winters. You won't be getting around in calf hair pumps in these temps. Even after 2 years these boots are still a favorite in my closet. The Sunner tweed coat is a 70% off purchase from over 2 years ago if you can believe it. I found the chocolate and navy colors in the coat looked very interesting and beautiful against the lavender/cream combo. To top off the look I wore an Échapeau that Nicolette from L FOR LAZARUS sent me. Derived from the french words for scarf and hat, the Échapeau can be worn as one piece or as individual items. Made in Europe from the softest wool and cashmere blend, I can truly say that this piece will keep you warm throughout the winter. I felt quite cozy and stylish in my Échapeau.
Congratulations to Adrienne Davis for winning the Kelsi Dagger giveaway! Stay tuned for an exciting new jewelry giveaway on Fashion Snag tomorrow.
