Cynthia Rowley Cashmere Cutout Sweater in Black - Snagged off Gilt.com for $129 (Retail: $330)
I will readily admit that I have become quite particular about the fabrication of pieces I buy online. I look for cashmere, silk, alpaca, mohair, wool, leather, etc. mostly or a good blend that I know will be soft. This probably stems from the fact that in high school I could barely afford to get myself something at Vanity or American Eagle in the mall and I was made fun of for not having the best clothing. I take full advantage of getting the best materials now to assure that my item will last. I also want the item to be able to work again and again in many different outfits. This Cynthia Rowley cashmere sweater was a great find on Gilt. Now, I can see why it might have been a hard sell. It has cut-outs on the back and the front near your shoulders. I swoon over cutouts, but some people probably don't like them very much. You could layer a long sleeve underneath or wear it as is on a cool, yet sunny day. Luckily, in Denver we have a lot of days where the sun is shining so even though it is winter it stays pretty warm. In other words, the sweater was a perfect buy for a Denver-ite like me.
To play with how it looks I tucked the front into my leather shorts and left the back of it hanging out. I think it looks better this way. Otherwise, it hides my shape too much in both the front and the back. These Alice + Olivia leather cady cuff shorts, which I also own in black, have only been seen on the Shopbop website. They sold out pretty fast and I have yet to see them in moss anywhere else, but if you do see them and can afford to get them I would highly recommend it. The color is perfect and they glow in photos. I think the cuff on these leather shorts makes them easier to dress up than most so I wore some stiletto heels for footwear. These Jimmy Choo Jedd studded ankle boots were a gift from my boyfriend last Christmas. I haven't worn them in a while, but when I pulled them out again I wondered why I hadn't chosen them more. They are very comfortable and the style is edgy, yet not too trendy. If you are scared to step into ankle boot territory these might be a good first step without going all the way.
