My friends over at ÉSTAINE here in Colorado let me pick out one of their beautiful silk scarves for styling on Fashion Snag. ÉSTAINE designs unique luxury accessories inspired by dye stained cells under the microscope. Scientists use dyes to stain tissue in the lab, which helps them diagnose many forms of cancer. The 100% silk twill sunburst scarf that I am wearing shows the pattern of stained cells under the microscope using hematoxylin and eosin dyes. This type of stain can lead to the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. ÉSTAINE designs luxury accessories made in Como, Italy alongside many other Italian luxury brands. When you purchase a scarf or tie from ÉSTAINE 10% of your pledge is donated to breastcancer.org or the Lymphoma & Leukemia Society. ÉSTAINE is helping to fight the war on cancer and you can too. ÉSTAINE truly is for the fashionably and socially conscious. Please check out their kickstarter campaign here and make a pledge today. I love my scarf and I noticed how high quality it was right away. The colors are beautiful to wear with my winter outfits and will look amazing with ensembles for the spring and summer as well.
My entire look was styled around the scarf. I wanted to show you how to wear a colorful silk scarf in the winter. This is a fun way to bring some spring and summer trends into your wardrobe right now without sacrificing your warmth. It is still really cold out there. I wanted the scarf to be the statement piece in the look and since it features beautiful pink and purple colors as well as a unique pattern I kept the rest of my outfit pretty simple. By wearing black and white as a base the scarf really stands out. I liked how the scarf looked against a black or white top a lot. I snagged this beautiful angora blend sweater over the holidays and it has a nice cropped cut to it. It is so cozy and fuzzy as well. I am wearing a size small in the sweater if you are interested in purchasing it.
I also wore a black knit skirt from a brand that I love. This A.L.C. skirt is definitely one of my closet staples. You can never go wrong with a stretchy knit flared skirt like this. I think it is very flattering on most shapes. Right now it is on super sale so be sure to snag it here while you can. I am wearing a size extra small. I also wore my favorite tights from Express. They never get a snag in them and are very high quality for the price. They are on sale right now too.
On my feet are some super cool boots I snagged on sale from The Outnet last winter. I wore them in Aspen with a quilted leather skirt and Chanel bag. You can see that post here. The Outnet carries a wide selection of Alaia shoes on sale. Check out all of them here. Alaia shoes almost always run true to size. I am wearing my usual size 39 in these boots. They are so cute thanks to the shearling detailing at the top. They are also lined in shearling, which keeps your feet and legs very warm. I love the tread sole on these boots because it is perfect for the Colorado winter weather. I won't slip and my boots have rubber tread so they don't get ruined by the salty and slushy streets.
Knee high socks are an easy and affordable way to spice up an outfit. In this video I layered some argyle knee socks over black opaque tights. I went for a retro look on top with a fitted long sleeve turtleneck and denim mini skirt. On my feet are chunky platform ankle boots. Shop the entire look below. My friends over at Chrissy's Knee High Socks let me pick out a few pairs of knee high socks for styling. I was so excited because I think knee high socks and socks in general can really make an outfit or update a look. More than that, they are a cheap and affordable way to update and spice up ensembles. You can see all the socks I picked in the photos where I am holding them. I chose the argyle pair for styling around a look. Now the great thing about knee high socks is that you can wear them without tights, over tights, scrunched up, or peeking out of knee high boots. The possibilities are endless. Chrissy's Knee High Socks carries argyle, striped, funky, solid, tube, and custom knee high socks. I even saw the cutest pair with paw prints. You can find them here. Any type of knee high sock you are looking for you will be able to find at Chrissy's Knee High Socks or they will custom make some for you. All their socks are made in the USA and are high quality, soft, and warm.
It was really difficult to narrow it down to a few favorite pairs, but that is exactly what I did here. You can see I snagged two argyle pairs, one in burgundy and one in green. I am wearing the burgundy colored pair in the photos. I also snagged a leopard print, green tie dye, striped, and solid black pair with ribbed detailing. These knee high socks will really be helpful for transitioning into spring. When I don't want to wear pants or jeans I can wear them over my opaque tights like I did here. The burgundy argyle knee high socks over the black opaque tights created a preppy look. It also created the illusion of a pair of seamless leggings or tights. I can picture the green tie dye socks working really well with denim shorts in the spring and summer. The leopard print pair would look great with some platform sandals.
I styled the entire look around the socks and added some edge by wearing my Gucci platform lace-up ankle boots. I love these boots because they have that nice sole that features tread, making them perfect for Colorado. These boots are very comfortable and they are true to size. The best thing is that platforms are coming back into style. They were never out of style in my book, but they are going to be huge in the spring, summer, and fall. They make you taller and they are so much more comfortable so you won't hear me complaining. See how I wore the Gucci boots in the past with a leather skirt and leather leggings.
Since I am really into the seventies right now I styled the top part of my outfit around that era. I put on this little denim button front mini skirt that you've seen before. The last time I wore it was here with a sheer polka dot top and thigh high boots. This skirt has the perfect A-line shape and is very flattering. Make sure to size up one size from your usual jean size. I am wearing a size 27 and I am 5'5. This skirt definitely has that retro appeal and is very versatile. You can wear it with bare legs, opaque tights, or thigh high/over the knee boots. The possibilities are endless. I think jeans and denim in general is really hot right now. Buy some flares and a denim mini similar to this one to get ready for spring and summer.
On top I wore a basic black turtleneck. This Splendid turtleneck has become a workhorse in my wardrobe. Turtlenecks are really trendy right now, but at the same time they are classics. You really can't go wrong stocking up on them. This turtleneck is a modal and cotton blend making it super soft. I have had it for years it is still in great shape. It is under $60 as well. See how I wore it recently with white trousers here and with high waisted jeans here. I am wearing a size small in the turtleneck if you are interested in purchasing.
